What are the tasks of the HR Business Partner ?

The HR Business Partner participates in the definition and implementation of the HR strategy, according to the objectives predefined by the management, while taking into account the human capital.

In relation with the company’s Human Resources Department, the HRBP intervenes at different decision-making levels: recruitment, integration, career management, consulting. He assesses the profitability of the teams, the economic interest of training them and hiring new employees.

The HRBP implements and delivers training courses within a defined budget. Thanks to a complete analysis of the company’s internal environment, he/she identifies team development needs and manages the recruitment process. He also assists and advises managers in the management of their teams or during discussions with social partners.

The HRBP is the main contact for managers and employees in his or her area in order to fully assume the role of HR business partner. He/she is the key player in supporting the transformation and growth of his/her area.

The tasks of the Human Resources Business Partner may include

  • Participate in the BU Management Committee to support the business in a cross-functional way and be the main point of contact,
  • Supporting managers in understanding human issues and developing their teams by explaining and giving meaning to organisational and strategic decisions,
  • Ensure the implementation of the HR policy and tools within the business organisations,
  • To be in direct contact with the employees in the agency/delegation/workshop to ensure their follow-up with the managers (annual assessment interviews, development, mobility, training, etc.),
  • Set up and manage professional interviews in conjunction with the training and skills development department, while working upstream on skills mapping,
  • Contribute to the implementation of HRIS and ensure the proper appropriation by managers,
  • Facilitate induction sessions,
  • To be a player in cross-cutting issues aimed at improving the HR policy as a whole,
  • Working closely with the various departments in the HR department: training and skills management, recruitment, administration, communication and employer brand,

What skills does an HR Business Partner need ?

The HR Business Partner is a multi-functional employee who knows how to juggle the various tasks entrusted to him. They have excellent interpersonal skills and are good listeners. He/she knows how to adapt his/her speech to any type of audience. Flexible and proactive, the HR Business Partner also has a good knowledge of human resources and social law, applicable in companies. HR software and office automation hold no secrets for them. Autonomous, the HRBP is organised and rigorous. Depending on the company and its international outlook, a good command of a language may be required.

How to become an HRBP ?

The HR Business Partner has a 5-year degree in human resources or a business school, with a specialisation in HR. A first significant experience in a position related to human resources is essential to qualify for this type of position.

What salary for a Human Resources Business Partner ?

Since the HRBP is not a newcomer to the HR sector, he or she can expect a higher salary than a beginner. After 3 years of experience, an HR Business Partner earns on average €45k/year. The salary can reach up to 70 K€/year, depending on the number of years of experience in the position and the type of structure that employs him.

What are the career prospects for an HR Business Partner ?

The HR Business Partner may subsequently progress to the position of Human Resources Director. They may also choose to work for an HR consultancy firm to advise companies on their human resources strategy, after carrying out specific audits.
